The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay will be divided into three separate parts

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay will take place from 13 August, four days after the closing of the Olympic Games, to 25 August, the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The momentum and excitement of the Olympic Games will be maintained during the transition period and carried over to the Paralympic Games.

1st : Each prefectural flame lit in 43 prefectures will depart for Tokyo

The flames lit in Stoke Mandeville in the UK - the birthplace of the Paralympic Games - and at 43 prefectures across the host country will be brought together to form the Paralympic flame. The flame represents the passion everyone has to support the Paralympic Games. And this isn’t limited to the actual flame; a digital flame has also been approved for use on social media. The flames lit between 13 and 17 August in the 43 prefectures will depart for Tokyo and brought together in the Host City to form the Paralympic Flame.

Regional Flame Celebrations and Departure Ceremonies will be held by 43 prefectures. Each prefecture will prepare a unique and original celebration. Check each websites for further information.

2nd : In addition to the flame-lighting ceremony and flame visits (optional), torch relays will be held in these three prefectures, and the torch will depart for Tokyo. The flame-lighting ceremony and torch relay will also be held in Tokyo on 21 August.

3rd : The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Flame is born.

The actual flames from all 47 prefectures as well as from Stoke Mandeville will come together in Tokyo. The final four days of the Paralympic Torch Relay will then take place in Tokyo.
