The Torch Relay in Kyoto will start in the northern city of Kyotango, and will journey south, making its way to the city of Kameoka where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from the city of Uji, travelling across the southern part of the prefecture, arriving in the city of Kyoto for a celebration.

The highlights of the Torch Relay in Kyoto will include: the Amanohashidate Park in the city of Miyazu, featuring some 3,700 pine trees and a sandbank stretching across a distance of approximately 2.4 kilometres; the city of Uji, the setting of the “Tale of Genji”; and Kyoto, often referred to as “the city of a thousand years”.
