The Torch Relay in Oita will start in the city of Beppu, known for Japan’s largest number of hot springs and volume of hot spring water, and will visit Kunisaki Peninsula before its journey through the northern part of the prefecture, making its way to the city of Hita where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from the town of Kusu, known as the home of fairy tales, visiting Yufuin and the Houhi area, then travelling across the southern part of the prefecture, arriving in the city of Oita for a celebration.

The highlights of the Torch Relay in Oita will include: the “Town of the Showa Era”, the streetscapes of the 1950s reproduced in an area in the city of Bungotakada; the Harajiri Fall in the city of Bungoono, where the waterfall can be viewed up close; and the KOKONOE “YUME” OTSURIHASHI, offering a dynamic view of the Kuju Mountain Range.
