The Torch Relay in Kochi will start in front of the statue of Ryoma Sakamoto, a local hero from the 1800s, at Katsurahama, Kochi City, and will journey west, making its way to the city of Sukumo where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from the city of Nankoku, travelling across the eastern part of the prefecture, arriving in the city of Kochi for a celebration.

The highlights of the Torch Relay in Kochi will include: Niyodo River, popular for its transparency and beautiful blue waters; the scenic beauty of low water crossings over Shimanto River, considered the last clear river in Japan; and one of the nation’s leading surfing spot, Ikumi Beach in the town of Toyo.
