The Torch Relay in Aichi will start in the city of Seto, widely known as the “pottery town”, and will journey through the Owari region in the western part of the prefecture, making its way to Nagoya Castle with its golden shachihoko, a golden statue on the roof of the castle in the form of a mythical half carp, half tiger creature, where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from the city of Toyohashi where trams are operated, travelling through the areas of Higashi-mikawa, Nishi-mikawa and Chita, arriving at Toyota Stadium for a celebration.

The highlights of the Torch Relay in Aichi will include: Atsuta Shrine, home to the sacred sword “Kusanagi-no-tsurugi” , one of the three sacred imperial treasures; the National Treasure Inuyama Castle with Japan’s oldest style castle tower; the brewery “kura” warehouses lining Handa waterway, where breweries contributed to the prosperity of the area since the Edo Period; Toyokawa Inari , one of the three great inari temples/shrines in Japan; and Okazaki Castle, birthplace of Ieyasu Tokugawa.
