The Torch Relay in Gifu will start in the city of Nakatsugawa. After travelling through the eastern part of the prefecture, a celebration will take place at the end of the first day at Takayama City. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from the city of Gero and travel across the western part of the prefecture, arriving in the city of Gifu for a celebration.

The highlights of the Torch Relay in Gifu will include: Magome-juku in the city of Nakatsugawa with its stone paved slopes reminiscent of the Edo Era; Takayama Jinya, the political centre of Hida in the Edo Era and the historical streetscapes of the city of Takayama; the Sekigahara Battlefield, site of the most decisive samurai battle in the city of Sekigahara; Gifu Castle, home to Nobunaga Oda, and the clear stream of Nagara River in the city of Gifu.
