The Torch Relay in Nagano will start in the town of Karuizawa, host of the summer and winter Olympic Games, and will journey through the various legacy venues from the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in the eastern and northern areas of the prefecture, making its way to the city of Nagano where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave from Tsumago-juku, one of the traditional post stations from the Edo Period, visiting Nagano’s central and southern countryside with the Japan Alps as the backdrop that showcase the rich history and culture and the beautiful nature of Nagano, arriving in the city of Matsumoto for a celebration. Nagano City is home to the National Treasure Zenko-ji Temple, and Matsumoto City is where Matsumoto Castle is located.
