Miraitowa and Someity visit the "2020 Award" Recipient Schools!

The Mascots will visit 8* of the elementary schools and the students that took part in the mascot voting selection!

*16,700 elementary schools participated in the Mascot voting. Every 2020th school that voted was selected as a "2020 Award" recipient.

Mukonosato Elementary School of Amagasaki, Hyogo Pref.

Now the time has come for the last visit to the school that won the 2020 Awards. The last school the mascots visited was the Mukonosato Elementary school in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture. Miraitowa and Someity appeared along with Ms. Mika Sugimoto who won asilver medal in Judo at the London 2012 Games. Miraitowa and Ms. Sugimoto presented a dynamic kumite fight during the demonstration time. Someity also participated in experiencing “the training methods necessary for Judo” during class. And there was a lovely surprise from the children when Miraitowa and Someity were about to leave! The mascots received a flower bouquet gift. They were very touched by that, and felt the importance of meeting with people.

Miraitowa and Someity were able to meet many children, teachers, and Olympians at the elementary schools they visited for the 2020 Awards. They have learned various about sports, training methods, and teamwork. The mascots had a great experience and are looking forward to the Tokyo 2020 Games where they will serve as ambassadors of the Games.

Furuya Elementary School of Kawagoe, Saitama Pref.

Miraitowa and Someity visited Furuya Elementary School in Kawagoe, Saitama prefecture along with Furuya Elementary School in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, was the 12,120th school that won the 2020 Awards. When Miraitowa and Someity entered the venue, there was big cheering from everyone. Through a quiz, the mascots learned how to run long distance and how to position the arms from Ms. Megumi Oshima, the Olympian from Saitama prefecture. Miraitowa and Someity tried balance training and running form training as well. After running, every team held meetings to discuss what went right and what did not. It was very important to share what they found out. The mascots learned many things that are important for long distance running.

Monma Elementary School of Tone, Ibaraki Pref.

Tokyo 2020 mascots and the Olympian Mr. Koji Nakata (Soccer) visited the Monma elementary school in Tonemachi, Ibaraki prefecture. Monma elementary school was the 2020th to win the 2020 Awards. The mascots played soccer with the school children. First, they played a quiz game about the Olympic Games,Paralympic Games and soccer. Miraitowa and Someity participated in the quiz with Mr. Nakata. Also, they watched Mr. Nakata’s professional lifting performance. Everyone was very excited! Miraitowa and Someity tried basic soccer techniques such as dribbling and passing in front of everyone. At the last Q&A session, Mr. Nakata taught everyone how it was important for him that he kept working hard for his games and towards his goals.

Komei-Gakuen School for Special Needs Education, Tokyo

Miraitowa and Someity visited Komeigakuen in Tokyo for the 2020 Awards. Komeigakuen became the 14,140th school to win this award. Mr. Hideyuki Otake who competed in Volleyball at the Olympic Games Barcelona 1992 appeared with the mascots. Mr. Otake’s height is 2m and 8cm! Everyone at Komeigakuen was surprised to see how tall he was. Miraitowa and Someity were also looking up to see his face. The mascots learned about volleyball with the students at Komeigakuen. First, Mr. Otake showed them the techniques using his Olympian skills. Everyone was so amazed to see his speed and power! The mascots were able to spend a great time with all the students at Komeigakuen through learning volleyball.

Daiju Elementary School of Tachikawa, Tokyo

Miraitowa and Someity visited Tachikawa Daijyu Elementary School in Tachikawa-city, Tokyo, for the 2020 Awards. When Miraitowa and Someity appeared along with the Olympian Ms. Hanae Ito (Swimming), the crowd gave a big cheer. The mascots tried training to strengthen inner muscles and stretching to have flexible shoulders by watching Ms. Ito’s demonstration. All the children were very active in asking questions and trying every move. Miraitowa and Someity tried their best as well!

Iijima-minami Elementary School of Akita, Akita Pref.

Miraitowa and Someity visited Iijima Minami Elementary School for the "2020 Awards ". The mascots learned about athletics from Olympian, Mr. Ito Tomohiro and participated in a quiz about the Olympic and Paralympic Games. One of the questions about track was "Which part of the body needs to be at the finish line? " The answer is "the torso. " Mitaitowa and Someity held the goal tape and cheered for the children running towards the finish line.

Iijima-minami Elementary School of Akita is certified as the school to implement Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 Education Programme "Yoi Don!".

Toshima Elementary School of Toshima, Tokyo

The 2nd school the mascots visited for the "2020 Awards" was the Toshima elementary school. Toshima is a small island in Tokyo, full of nature. On this day, all the people in the island gathered to hold the "Toshima village sports day". Miraitowa and Someity participated in the event along with the Olympian Yukio Iketani (gymnastics). The team separated into a red team and a white team. And they took part in activities such as cheering battle, tug of war, ball throwing game, etc. Also, Yukio Iketani performed a special gymnastic demonstration. The mascots were able to watch the amazing performance of the Olympian with the people of Toshima village.

Fukuoka Primary School Attached to U.T.E.F

The mascots have begun visiting the schools who are recipients of the "2020 Awards".
The first school the mascots visited was the Fukuoka Primary School Attached to U.T.E.F Miraitowa and Someity participated in an Olympic and Paralympic quiz along with Daisuke Nakano (Athens 2004 Gymnastics Olympian). After that, Daisuke Nakano gave a class about "mat sports" to the children. The mascots took the class as well.
