The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay will be held from 12 August 2021 until 24 August 2021, during the transition period from the Olympic Games to the Paralympic Games. It will aim to create a festive atmosphere in the run-up to the Paralympic Games while maintaining the momentum generated by the Olympic Games.
Going forward, Tokyo 2020 will coordinate with the authorities in each prefecture regarding the detailed schedule of Flame lighting festivals, departure ceremonies and other ceremonies along the route of the Relay. More information will be available in due course.
As of September 28, 2020
The Nagano Prefecture Paralympic Flame Festival will feature flame lighting in all 10 regions of the prefecture using a variety of methods that are indicative of the climate, culture and the lives of people in those areas, after which those flames will visit each area of the prefecture. The flames will then be gathered to M-Wave in Nagano City, which was the venue for the Nagano 1998 Paralympic Games, where they will be gathered into one to become the Nagano Prefecture flame. From there the Paralympic flame will make its way from Nagano Prefecture, which hosted a Paralympic Games and the 2005 Special Olympics Winter World Games, to Tokyo, bearing the hopes of people for an inclusive society where anyone, regardless of their age, gender, and whether or not they have an impairment, etc., can belong and contribute, and for the National Sports Festival for People with Impairments, which is planned for 2027.

Flame visits
In every corner of Nagano Prefecture, exhibitions and events will be held in city, town and village offices, gymnasiums, other places where anyone can easily visit, and support facilities for people with impairments, etc., to enable as many people as possible to experience the Paralympic flame and send it on its way as the Nagano Prefecture flame with their thoughts for the Paralympics and an inclusive society.
