Important notice

On Tuesday 24 March 2020, the International Olympic Committee and The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced the postponement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

A new schedule for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay will be decided in accordance with the decision made on the specific dates of the postponed Tokyo 2020 Games.

The following information was compiled and released before the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games was announced on 24 March 2020.

The Ibaraki Prefecture Paralympic Flame Festival will feature flame lighting that will be carried out at the Ibaraki Prefectural Government building in Mito City, the prefectural capital, from where the flame will also depart.

Highlights will include the lighting of the torch from the National Para-sports Games, that was unable to be held due to last year's typhoon, from the pilot light, which is still burning. The hopes and dreams of the many athletes who were to attend the games, and the many people from the prefecture who participated in the lighting of the torch flame in the 44 cities, towns and villages throughout the prefecture, will ride in the flame as it leaves as the Ibaraki Prefecture Paralympic flame.
