Tokyo 2020 Welcomes Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA as Paralympic Official Supporter

The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) today welcomed Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA (Ottobock) as a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Supporter in the category “Therapeutical Medical Devices, Rehabilitation and Mobility Healthcare Products and Exoskeleton.” Its addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Partners to 63.

By becoming a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Supporter, the third tier of the domestic sponsorship programme, Ottobock will provide valuable support for the successful delivery of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

During the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Ottobock will be providing its technical service to all athletes for the sixteenth time. Both sports and everyday devices will be repaired. This allows athletes to concentrate fully on their competitions, getting the most out of their performances. A 100-strong international team of experienced O&P professionals, wheelchair specialists and welders will provide free support to all the athletes, regardless of their nationality or existing device. Around 2,000 repairs, utilising 18 metric tonnes of equipment and machinery, as well as 15,000 spare parts, are estimated to take place during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori welcomed Ottobock’s participation, commenting, “We are delighted to have Ottobock, offering the latest products in the field of medical technology, as a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Supporter. Ottobock has helped athletes at previous Games perform at their best through their support and their servicing of prosthetic components. With their help, we will prepare the best possible Games environment where para-athletes can focus on their performance.”

Prof. Hans Georg Näder, President Chairman of the Board of Ottobock, commented, “The enthusiasm of the Japanese people for Paralympic sport is enormous and I am looking forward to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with a passion that will be felt not only in Japan but by audiences worldwide. Ottobock has a long history in Asia, with a strong commitment to its people and the growth of the region. In 1999, we introduced prosthetic and orthotic care and have pioneered its development ever since. Our Paralympic engagement is part of the company DNA and becoming the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Supporter is a natural progression of our commitment to both the region and Paralympic sport.”

About the IPC Sponsorship Programme and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Sponsorship Programme: Sponsorship of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games is divided into two categories: the IPC’s Sponsorship Programme and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Sponsorship Programme. Domestic sponsors will also be core components of Tokyo 2020’s Marketing Programme, and until 2020 they will be indispensable partners both for the successful delivery of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and as partners of Japan’s Paralympic teams. Accordingly, they will be accorded the rights to use Tokyo 2020’s Paralympic designations and imagery, including emblems, mascots and slogans.
