  • Montreal 1976 : Nadia Comaneci of Romania got the first perfect 10 of Olympic history during the Women's ArtisticTeam all-around event.
  • Mexico 1968 : American athlete Bob Beamon breaks the Long Jump record at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. 8,90m. He improves the precedent best mark by 55cm.
  • Seoul 1988 : Greg Louganis of the USA diving team hits his head on the board during competition. He still manage to claim gold on that 3m event.
  • Rome 1960 : Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia, running barefoot, draws away from Abdesselem Rhadi of Morocco near the finish of the marathon at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He went on to win with a new Olympic record time of 2 hours 15 minutes 16 seconds.
  • London 2012 : Ian Millar of Canada riding Star Power competes in the Individual Jumping Equestrian. This was his 10th and last summer Olympic participation, a record that still hold.
  • Barcelona 1992: Derek Redmond of Great Britain is helped towards the finish line by his father Jim Redmond after suffering an injury in the 400m semi-final.
  • Beijing 2008: Usain Bolt won gold in the 100m final, with a new world record of 9,69s. He also won the 200m event with a world record of 19,30s.
  • Barcelona 1992: The Dream Team of USA with the best players in the world in the same team, including Michael Jordan (middle), Scottie Pippen (left) and Clide Drexler (right) who won gold and put basketball on another level.
  • Munich 1972:  Mark Spitz of the USA achieved medal winning fame at these Munich Games where he won seven golds with seven world records, the highest any Olympic Competitor has won for any sport at single Games. Michael Phelps overtook him at the Beijing 2008 Games with 8 gold medals.
  • Helsinki 1952 : Emil Zatopek (1922 - 2000) of Czechoslovakia (left) is congratulated by Alain Mimoun O'Kacha of France after winning the 5,000 metres at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Mimoun came second. Zatopek also won the 10,000 metres and the marathon. He remains the only athlete to claim the Olympic long-distance treble.

Yesterday (Thursday, 11 June) the traditional Bislett Games, the biggest athletics event in Norway, were held. During these times where travel restrictions are still in place and Diamond League meetings have not resumed, the Oslo organisers decided to rename that special meeting "The Impossible Games". With that in mind, Tokyo 2020 decided to take a look at the most impossible Olympic moments.
