People from diverse backgrounds to form a "Human Orchestra" in Shibuya, Tokyo to welcome the Paralympic Games
Creative Director Kenji Kohashi announces “ONE - Our New Episode”
“ONE - Our New Episode” will be the new title of “Towards the Realisation of Inclusive Society” – one of the four programmes of the TOKYO 2020 NIPPON FESTIVAL which will run in conjunction with the Tokyo 2020 Games.
“ONE - Our New Episode” will see various artistic displays and performances to be staged by a diverse range of people from different backgrounds to form a “Human Orchestra” which is the main concept for this festival theme.
Creative director Kenji Kohashi said, “Learning to achieve harmony by blending various individualities through things like an orchestra represents a process whereby we can learn about others while also learning about ourselves. And hopefully that will contribute to producing a society in which we can mutually appreciate each other.”

The “Human Orchestra” will be staged before the commencement of the Paralympic Games in Shibuya, considered to be one of the most exciting and contemporary cities in Tokyo.
“Through music, culture, art, and performance the “Human Orchestra” will spread throughout the city and various personalities shine. By witnessing this, everyone will experience and be transformed,” Kohashi said.
“This is the concept: Let's come together and create a harmony such as never been heard before, in which everyone, be he or she can express his or her unique individuality while interacting with other members of the orchestra,” he continued.
“We will develop a new cultural programme in Shibuya that embodies the true meaning of “diversity and inclusion”. The general public will be able to participate and create new stories that transcend various disciplines,” he added.
At the conference, human orchestra member wheelchair dancer Kenta Kanbara, dancer Aoi Yamada, and artist and creator Bunta Shimizu gave a collaborative dance performance
Artist Masatoshi Muto composed the music used in the dance performance
Kids appeared in gorgeous costumes as part of artist Vivien Sato's head dress workshop
