The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held the seventh meeting of its Mascot Selection Panel on Friday, 1 December.
Panel members first checked evidence submitted by the designers of the three final shortlisted entries proving that their submissions are original works, and then checked details of the design production process. Following this, the members received a report stating that all entries had successfully passed the trademark verification process. In addition, as the entries required a partial modification in line with the original competition requirements, a final check was made to ensure the modifications had been made, and the panel then reached agreement that the final three shortlisted entries should be forwarded to the voting process.
The final three shortlisted entries will be officially announced on Thursday, 7 December. The voting period for elementary schools across Japan to vote for their favourite mascot designs is from 11 December 2017 – 22 February 2018. After receiving the results of the voting, the elected Tokyo 2020 Games Mascots will be unveiled on Wednesday, 28 February 2018.
