The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held the eighth meeting of its Mascot Selection Process Panel on Monday 24 April.
The meeting will be the final session for the panel, which has considered topics such as the method that will be used to select the mascots.
Speaking after the meeting, Vice Chairperson Yoshiko Ikoma observed, “The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee has set the ambitious goal of making the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 an innovative event with a message of positive energy and change for the world, and we members of the panel have engaged in a series of appropriately enthusiastic discussions in keeping with that spirit. We have high expectations that the selection of the mascots for the Tokyo 2020 Games will mark a new chapter in the history of event mascots.”
A new Mascot Selection Panel will be created to mark the start of the mascot selection process. The progress of the mascot selection, including a report on each meeting, will continue to be provided.
