The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) celebrated Olympic journalism at a special ceremony at the Tokyo 2020 JAPAN HOUSE venue on August 8, 2016. The ceremony's main objection was to honour journalists who have covered at least ten winter and summer Olympic Games. Koji Murofushi, Sports Director of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, joined the event and gave a greeting.
Around 100 journalists from around the world received awards at the event. 5 Japanese journalists were among those awarded, including Ms. Wakako Yuki of the Yomiuri Shimbun and Mr. Hiroshi Takeuchi of Kyodo News. Ms. Yuki has covered Olympic Games for more than 20 years. Mr. Takeuchi also covered the Olympic Games for many years, and now serves as Press Attaché for the Japanese Olympic Committee.
There was a star-studded line-up of presenters at the event, including HRH Prince Albert of Monaco, four-time Olympic champion Michael Johnson, Brazilian football legend Cafu, and IOC Vice-president Nawal el Moutawakel, who was the first female Muslim athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.
