TOKYO 2020 Executive Board Finalises Composition

All 34 members of the Executive Board of The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (TOKYO 2020) met today to finalise the Board's composition with the appointment of six Vice Presidents, a Director General and three Senior Executive Board Members. With the new appointments, TOKYO 2020 has now completed the laying of a solid foundation for the organising committee to ensure the successful preparations and operations of the TOKYO 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The newly appointed members of the Executive Board are as follows:
Vice Presidents
- Akio TOYODA (Chairman, Committee on Promotion of Sports, Keidanren / President, Toyota Motor Corporation)
- Yoshitaka SAKURADA (Minister in charge of Sports / Senior Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
- Ichiro KONO (President, Japan Sport Council)
- Tsunekazu TAKEDA (Member, International Olympic Committee / President, Japanese Olympic Committee)
- Yasushi YAMAWAKI (Governing Board Member, International Paralympic Committee / Director of Japan Sports Association for the Disabled and Vice President of Japan Paralympic Committee)
- Toshiyuki AKIYAMA (Vice Governor of Tokyo)

Director General
- Toshiro MUTO (Chairman, Daiwa Institute of Research / Chief Executive Officer, The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games)
Senior Executive Board Members
- Yukihiko NUNOMURA (Former Director General, Sports and Youth Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology / Chief Operations Officer, The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games)

- Hiroshi SATO (Former Vice Governor of Tokyo / Chairman & President of the Credit Guarantee of Tokyo)

Yoshiro Mori, President of the organising committee said: "Today's meeting of the Executive Board enabled us to get off to the ideal start as the highest decision-making body of the organising committee. The TOKYO 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games will serve as an exciting new target for the young people of Japan to strive towards, and will provide a major boost for the whole of society. All members of our 'All Japan' Executive Board are firmly committed and looking forward to exerting their utmost efforts to ensure the resounding success of the Games."

Also decided at the Executive Board meeting were the three following main points of emphasis for the current fiscal year.
1. Formulation of a Games Foundation Plan, and Promotion of Steady Preparations including the Design and Construction of Temporary Facilities
2. Marketing and Strategic Communications Activities
3. Strengthening of Headquarters' Capabilities and the Establishment of a Solid Financial Base
Notes on the above points:
1. The Games Foundation Plan will be formulated based on discussions and through working closely with the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and other relevant stakeholders.
2. Marketing and strategic communications activities will focus on the promotion of marketing activities, implementation of strategic communications activities, and promotion of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
3. Strengthening of Headquarters' capabilities and the establishment of a solid financial base will encompass further strengthening of organisational capabilities at the secretariat level, the establishment of public interest non-profit organisations, and the efficient and effective implementation of a financial plan and budget.

A budget of 2.48 billion JPY (US$ 24.3 million)* has been calculated for the FY2014 Headquarters' annual budget.
