Rio 2016 Women's Badminton Singles Final

The stage was set for world no.1 Carolina Marin of Spain and India's PV Sindhu to make history for their countries.

Locked in an intense battle, the two athletes showed their ruthless streaks in rallies. But it was ultimately Marin's speed that led her to victory. She became the first European woman to win Olympic gold in badminton and ended Asia's dominance in the sport. Sindhu settled for silver, which was also an historic victory as it put India on the badminton map of the world.
