All about orientation sessions

The Tokyo 2020 volunteer orientation sessions began in February. Along with creating an atmosphere for volunteers to experience the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the orientation sessions are aimed at raising volunteers’ affinity with the Tokyo 2020 Games and enhancing teamwork. The sessions also include interviews with participants to find out their thoughts about the Games.

The orientation sessions are scheduled to take place until around July 2019, and notifications on orientation sessions will continue to be sent out until around July. Please note that it may take some time yet before you receive a notification to attend an orientation session. Thank you for your kind understanding.

In addition, as we have received applications from a very large number of people to become volunteers, it will be impossible for us to provide orientation sessions for all applicants. In and around September, we will be sending out notifications informing applicants — those who have not previously received any notification to attend orientation sessions — that we have not been able to match them with their preferred activity.

Please note that, as the number of seats at the session venues is limited, reservations to attend orientation sessions will be made on a first come, first served basis. (Any person not attending the session due to being unable to secure a reservation will be deemed to have been "unmatchable" to their preferred activity. Please note that the orientation sessions in the Tokyo area will be held until May, and it is expected that an extremely large number of people will be making reservations during April and May).

Proof of identity checks will be carried out at the session venues. We have noted that there are a number of people that have not yet submitted their passport number or driver’s license.

See ‘Items to check before the orientation session’ prior to attending the session.

Information on orientation sessions

Personal computers will be provided at session venues to enable you to complete any necessary amendments. However, you will not be able to log in to Google, Facebook or LINE on these computers. Please note that if you do not bring an original copy of your proof of identity, you will be required to return to the venue with the original copy. Please ensure you do not forget to bring all necessary items with you.
